-Also, I am in no way a writer. My major is art and this was written on a whim. So yeah.. all mistakes are mine.-
Arthur Kirkland was a 23-year-old man of class. He owned is own business and played the stocks. A life of ease and comfort was a given with the money he had. He was also single, in good health, and very much on the datable market (If one could get past the huge eyebrows and almost permanent scowl).
But he was not happy.
He may have had the fame and the money, but none of that could clear the aching in his chest. The feeling that there was a gaping hole in his chest that could not be filled. And no matter how many dates he went on or what he got with his money, nothing and no one clicked. He would often find himself at home lying in bed with an aching heart. The type that clenches when one thinks of a home, but it's cold, dark and empty.
Something was missing from his life, but what was it?
Something tickled at the edge of their conscience. Warmth, contentment, and happiness that filled them up to the brim threatening to engulf their entire being
But something was wrong, but not wrong.
The feeling was so foreign, after so many long empty days and nights, that this happiness was a bit alarming. Curiosity (as what could be causing all this?) arose and they opened their eyes.
Blue and green clashed for the first time and their breaths caught and something clicked. It spread a warmth so hot it practically burned; and a tug so hard at their hearts that left them yearning.
They reached for each other. For they had to, who was it that filling their hearts with such light? Such feeling of wholeness.
They had almost made it too... before they met the barrier that kept them apart. It was in that instant that the filling dropped and something much deeper than their usual angst set in.
It willed tears into their eyes and caused action to have them scrambling at the glass that blocked their way. Why? Why?! Is fate so cruel that they couldn't even be happy in their dreams? (No, no, it had to be a nightmare.) Alfred let out a cry of frustration and banged against the glass. while Arthur clutched at the glass and then everything was falling around them.
They had woken up.
They each lay in their bed gasping (gulping) in air. Hearts racing furiously with sweat dripping down their skin they clutched at the blankets and simultaneously let out heart-clenching wails that would break the heart of anyone listening.
Time continued to move forward and the effects of that meeting was taking it's toll. Alfred holding up slightly more that Arthur, for now he knew that his Queen did exist, for who else could it have been that made his heart alight with such feeling? Though he did not have a clue where said queen was.
But Arthur... poor Arthur practically became a shell of a person. Sleepless nights and a depression that kept him from staying in good health, he was whittling away bit by bit everyday.
They had not dreamed of anything after the fateful one.
Depending on who you asked, it was the drivers fault for he was chatting on his cell phone. Or it could have been Arthur’s as he wasn't paying attention.
Either way, the man of Arthur Kirkland was hit by a passing car while crossing the road.
The paramedics announced him dead when they arrived at the scene.
Arthur though, did awaken again. Against the foreign feeling of grass tickling his cheeks as he eyes opened to a sky he did not know.
And over at the Spades Palace the clock let out a groan. Alfred stared. Another groan from the clock and then a single tick before the hand swung in one direction.
The Queen had been located.

When Alfred took the throne he had no queen by his side.
In usual custom the Spade Clock (passed down from king to king) would point to the new queen when the new king was stated. This time though the clock did not tick. It sat there like a paper weight in his hands silent and non-responsive. This was baffling! When had a King not had a Queen by his side?! The clock had never failed before! Wild murmurs had filled the court that day. The people of the kingdom apprehensive. Alfred was optimistic though; he told the people that all would be okay and to wait. The clock would point out the queen soon enough.
It didn't.
Months passed and the clock was still. Alfred didn't let his worry show, but being a single ruler was tiring and stressful. With him taking up the Queen responsibilities, and the only opinions he got were from the court and the Jack (Who both had to listen to his final ruling on any matter anyway) he could only hope he wasn't bringing his country to ruin.
Not only that, but he was terribly lonely. He got along with the Jack just fine, but there was just something missing in his heart that he knew could only be filled by the Queen. The very same one who hadn't showed up. It made him worry at night, and nervous during the day when he was by himself.
But where in the world was the Queen?
